The Castaways by Jeff Dunas

Just one month after their previous girl/girl set, Penthouse came up with another one which was also, like the previous set The Friends, photographed by Jeff Dunas.  This was their sixth specifically shot (we don't count Mirage as it was just pictures from a book) girl/girl set since their first, Two Women, in 1970.

The July 1975 issue of Penthouse was certainly their most soft focus yet.  Indeed, the cover shot of Jane Hargrave, that month's Pet, was one of the least soft focus shots in the magazine.  Dunas' pictures only worked because of the superior paper stock that Penthouse used compared with most of its rivals.

The story for this one is of two old friends meeting on the beach and discussing what it would be like to be castaway on a desert island.  It's not actually mentioned in the text but the suggestion is, from the clothes, the car and the interior, that perhaps this is a period-themed shoot, which would make it Penthouse's first.

"For the friends at the beach, the summer warmth is a soothing balm, and as they talk they become gently aware that their long relationship is about to embrace new horizons of sensual enlightenment."  Ah yes, the famously breathless Penthouse girl/girl pictorial text style is in full flow again.  "They know that they are about to bestow upon each other those same private and personal favors usually reserved for their lovers."

Firstly, however they have to negotiate the technicalities of kissing when one of them is wearing a large hat.  Kissing shots were still rare in girl/girl pictorials.

This location, with its distinctive swimming pool painting (seen above), would be used in another girl/girl pictorial, Gemini II, but this time by Earl Miller, for the January 1979 issue.  The difference in the photographic treatment between 1975 and 1979 can be clearly seen in this shot from the Earl Miller pictorial below.

Charlotte and Emily in Gemini II for January 1979

There is a credit in the pictorial for the provision of the Art Deco furniture which suggests that it was all brought in for the shoot.  There were also separate credits for hair, make-up, the vintage car and, most bizarrely "men's hair and beard design."  Given that the only man appearing in the shoot is the chauffer in the photo with the car, and his back is to the camera, this was surely a credit too far!

Inside, the girls, who are not named once more, have a companionable drink.  We are surprised that they didn't give a credit for the wine glasses as they are rather splendid, although anachronistic for the suggested period.

The five pictures above are all outtakes.  the girls admire themselves in the mirror and the blonde gets almost naked while the briunette keeps her dress on.  At least until the blonde removes it for her.  A lovely, dreamlike sequence this.

The lingerie on display here suggests the nineteen forties rather than the Art Deco period and the car looks nineteen thirties so perhaps they needed a credit for an historical advisor.

Its all very pretty and floaty and diffuse in that mid-seventies Vogue way.  One difference between this shoot and Dunas' previous girl/girl pictorial is the lack of any close-ups of the girls; they are all largely shot from a distance.

Here is an outtake which didn't appear in the magazine pictorial.

It's only in this one that we first get any of the overt lesbian action that we saw in The Friends.  This nipple sucking shot is, however, somehwat more explicit than those mouth to breast shots in that pictorial; the most explicit so far in the magazine.

This outtake has the blonde jauntily dangling her supender belt on the end of the foot as she finally removes all her clothes.

In this outtake the two girls aren't quite kissing but it is anice embrace, nonetheless.

This outtake was obviously taken just before the picture below, which was the one that appeared in the magazine.

Here we have something else that hadn't been shown before; the first hints of attention being given by one girl to the other's bottom.  Both her mouth and hand aren't quite solidly contacting the area in question yet but it's getting very close.

A nice kissing and caressing shot this one.  the two models always look convincingly tender towards each other.

In the picture of the two girls on the bed  we have the first Penthouse girl/gil picture where one girl is actually positioned between the legs of the other.

This shot, which didn't appear in the magazine is even more suggestive as the blonde is lodged firmly between the thighs of the brunette and is kissing her hip.  It is interesting to see how Penthouse was gradually making its lesbian pictorials more explicit with each one.  Was it a conscious decision or just  a natural evolution as they pushed at the perceived boundaries in the market?

In this outtake the brunette seems fascinated with the blonde's thigh.  However, the accompanying text says:  "At their apartment, among familiar things that seem somehow different, they stretch on the cooling linen and travel together into secrets once shared with their men."  Yes, its the old they're not really lesbians point again.

So here, intentionally or not, we have the first example of a photograph in a pictorial in the magazine of a girl with her hand on the other's pussy.  Interestingly too, as this rather indistinct shot demonstrates, they had yet to show any girl's labia in one of their girl/girl sets, despite the depiction of these becoming more common in their solo pictorials.

The next girl/girl set would have to wait until December, traditionally a month when Penthouse would push the boundaries of what they would show and that would certainly be the case for the 1975 issue.  Before that appears, however, we have another boy/girl set from November 1975 to post.

Kissing Venuses: 2

Last night we returned home, rather earlier than we had intended, to find an email from our particular friend S, who is currently lounging around in a luxury hotel in Fiji.  "We want more kissing Venuses!" she declared, having herself found another young lady to kiss on her holiday (except she is always on holiday, having retired in her thirties as a result of making a lot of money on a property deal).

Originally we posted a picture, which we had quite forgotten about, on our Venus Observations blog.  Obviously we intended it to be the first in a series but, perhaps, the starting of our Seduction of Venus Blog made us forget all about it.  Venus Observations, of course, is for solo ladies whilst this blog is for pictures of them interacting with other men and women (and, indeed, swans).

Now, putting together these blog entries is quite time consuming, given the amount of research and picture formatting that needs to be done.  Many other blogs featuring pictures of undressed young ladies confine themselves to pictures alone and, indeed, we had intended to do something similar for this blog.  Unfortunately, our urge to write overcame this estimable aim meaning that we don't feel able to just bung some pictures up and call it a post. Therefore, our posting rate is not what it should be but posts such as this, which are about the images themselves rather than any analysis or history, are quicker to produce.

We are always keen to respond to our reader's suggestions so more kissing Venuses there will be. We don't use the "Venus" appellation on this blog but as this is a transferred series (if you can call one post a series) we will retain the title here even if it is somewhat stylistically inconsistent.

We sought to quickly find a picture or two for a second post so had a quick look through our collection of scanned mens' magazine pictorials. Much to our surprise we discovered that the depiction of actual kissing in magazine girl/girl sets is comparatively rare.  Mostly the girls are depicted sticking their tongues out at each other or, perhaps, one may place her tongue into the other's mouth but the lips do not make contact.

Now there may be several reasons for this. Most women (despite what mens' magazines suggest) are not lesbians so there is no reason to believe that nude models would be more likely to be sapphic in any higher proportion to the general population.  Yet, since the popularisation of girl/girl sets by Penthouse in the nineteen seventies these have become a staple of erotica, for reasons of obvious appeal.  These days the girls are expected to do a lot more than kiss and yet there seem to be far more nipple sucking or pussy licking pictures than kissing ones. Is it that proper kissing is, for the model, more intimate than tongue/genital contact?

Our second thought is that perhaps proper kissing causes smudged lipstick and, hence, time consuming makeup correction issues. Or is it perhaps, that the act of kissing distorts the appearance of the mouth to such an extent that there are more unusable photos. Who knows?

Anyway, here are some fine kissing pictures from a nice set taken comparatively recently. We think we were sent these by another of S's sapphic Canadian friends but we are not certain. They appear to have been in our collection for around five years.

As will always be the case with this series we will only be showing the kissing pictures from any particular set.  Mwah! mwah!

Kissing Venuses: 1

This post originally appeared in our Venus Observations blog on a date before we had set up this Seduction of Venus blog.  We are, therefore, copying it over to this blog, a more appropriate home for it.

If there is anything more exciting than one Venus it is two Venuses interacting with each other, so we intend to post the occasional shot of girls kissing each other.

It was in 1981 that Agent Triple P was presented with his first two young ladies together. C, his girlfriend at the time, asked him what he thought about the prospect of having two girls at the same time. Triple P, being very aware of current views regarding political correctness, answered that it might be acceptable if he had strong feelings for both and if the young ladies in question were completely happy about the situation. What he didn't say, of course, was that this would be every man's dream! Nevertheless, within a week, he was presented with C and her friend (whose name escapes us but whose arse does not) encouraging Triple P into the shower of the ladies college at Oxford where they were both students. A very exciting hour or so followed where Triple P was more inspired by the sight of what the two young ladies did to each other rather than what they subsequently did to him (which was, indeed, most diverting).

Since then, given that many of Triple P's young ladies have demonstrated strong Sapphic tendencies, we have almost got used to the visual delights of two (or three or, on one memorable occasion in Vancouver, five) ladies entertaining each other. But not quite. So we will see more of them here in the future.

Leda and the Swan by Fred Einaudi

When we ventured that Igor Zeinalov's version of Leda and the Swan was the only rear-entry interpretation of the myth that we had seen someone commented that there was also a similar approach taken by the American artist Fred Einaudi (b. 1971) in one of his paintings.

It is difficult to discover much about Mr Einaudi, other than he lives in San Franciso, but his surrealistic paintings are largely fixated with images of death.  His Leda, ecstatically being ravished by the Zeus swan from behind, shares her environment with a wrecked boat and an artist (a self-portrait?) on a bleak looking beach.

I suspect this may be an early work as it is not as technically accomplished as some of his other paintings and the composition piles up the key elements (Leda, swan, artist, boat) on top of one another without much regard for depth.  Still, an interesting interpretation.

More of his work here.
